It isn't gory, but it is brutal at times. Honestly, unless you are expecting a gorefest, it wasn't more gruesome than some of the battles in Braveheart.

Regarding it's effect on me, it's more of a realization of what my Lord and Saviour endured, for the benefit of each and everyone of those that assisted the high priests, and for all those throughout the ages.

It is a tear-jerker, but I also had a huge smile on my face when 1) He crushed the serpent's head in the garden(VERY powerful fulfillment of the scripture), and 2) Easter sunday coming around at the end, the Son of Man conquering through that which Satan thought would destroy Christ.

It's tough to sit through at times, but the worst part of that is that the movie isn't as harsh as the real event was. (ie: His lungs being exposed)

Regardless, it was very moving, certainly an experience, and anyone that feels grounded in their faith should go see. Just remember it isn't one of those films that you talk about all the way home, simply because the whole car is lost for words. Now if only that effect was garnered to those that read the scripture...
