Is it really this bad? The degree of carnage I mean? If so, No thanks. I'd rather have benign, uplifting images in my spiritual life. If I want a blood-fest, I'll rent Resevoir Dogs.

Pupils offered counselling over Passion of the Christ

Pupils at a US school have been offered counselling after a teacher showed them clips of Mel Gibson's film, The Passion of the Christ.

The Washington Post says some students were so upset at the violence that they walked out of the lesson.

Officials at Malcolm X Elementary School, in the Congress Park area of Washington DC, say teacher Ronald Anthony has been given leave pending an investigation.

Cutairra Ransom, 11, walked out of the lesson for sixth-graders after watching 15 minutes of the film.

She said: "I saw Jesus getting beaten. Needles were going in his arms. It was scary the way they was beating him. It made me feel really bad, terrible."

About 20 pupils were shown the film. School officials say they're looking at how Mr Anthony managed to get hold of a copy of the film - which hasn't been released on video or DVD.

Principal Vaughn C Kimbrough says students disturbed by the images will be offered counselling. It's thought the pupils were shown 60 to 90 minutes of the two-hour film.
