I like Clancy as well, but don't forget Dale Brown (his latest is Wings of Fire but his most famous novel is Flight of the Old Dog) and Steve Coonts (I highly recommend Flight of the Intruder) - both are retired aviators; the latter being Navy and the former Air Force.

I also like John Sanford. (The Devil's Code)
