Spellfire was my introduction to Forgotten Realms. Since I had not played any of the games nor read any of the other books its inconsitencies were not apparent to me. It made a nice quick read (1day) for me and I got it for 50 cents so I came out OK. I think it pretty much reflects Ed's writing. Sometimes it is good and other times it is a vacuumm in reverse (for those of you who are right-handed that means it blows).
