I got hold of the DVD and checked out the Special Features section. There are three endings. The Director explains why they choose the released one. I will spare you the elaboration.
I also discovered that the movie was supposed to be a lot longer. This would of resolved the charaticures we saw vice the characters we should have learned about problem. It would have also removed that stupid choppy feeling you get as seemingly unrelated scenes pop in and out.
The actors seemed to enjoy making the movie. I know I would have if they were paying me that much to run around in psuedo costumes, evoking one liners and looking both perplexed and confused.
