Well... LotR's an epic, isn't it? If one of the categories for choosing a 'Best Book of All Time' is instant appeal or accessibility to all, then LotR flunks. You've got to be the kind of person who REALLY digs sprawling HUGE big mad story/sagas to get the most out of LotR.
Besides, there's a big difference between 'taste' and 'style'...
