i) The West Door of Moria was constructed for the Elves of Eregion in the Second Age. In this time, there used to be a lot of trading between the Dwarfs of Moria and the Elves, that used to live in the now vacant lands between Rivendell and the Misty Mountains. And because the dwarven language is supposed to be kept secret by the dwarves, maybe that is the reason, why the entrance is opened by an elvisch word.
BTW, in Eregion Sauron showed the Elves how to create the rings of power. And Galadriel also stood there before going to Lorien after the destruction of the Elven Kingdom by Sauron.
ii) hm, don't know
iii) The only reason I ca imagine, is that he feared, that Saruman would show up personally to get the ring. But anyway, Saruman knows which route the guys would have to travel, there aren't too many...
iv) and with this they left out the very nice scene when Gimli asks for a piece of Galadriels hair...
