Author (what's new by someone I know?)
Title (does it sound interesting?)
Cover (if it's got a dragon on it, I'll always at least take a peek!)
THEN, I'll read the back cover, the intro and maybe even the preface.
I have never bought a book just because I liked the cover, but I will at least pick it up if the cover looks interesting.

Y'know, that's about exactly the same way i check books... especially the part about the dragons on the cover

although I generally read the back cover no matter WHAT the title/cover is. I generally don't read intro or preface, though. Of course, with me it's a bit different, because I can only get German books from bookstores and I refuse to read the translation, so I buy all my books from
www.amazon.de I basically just check what sounds interesting in the bookstore so that I can buy it from amazon. However, if I start reading it, then I might get so intrigued that I buy the German version! Yecch!
BTW, I consider the Terry Pratchett covers awful. They put too much weight on *ahem* beautiful women, which I do NOT think to be an essential part of Pratchett's books!
