You can also use a scroll of protection from magic on him so he cannot dimension door away and (slowly) hack him to death.
The helmet has the useful benefits you mention. He will appear in the basement.
Fists passing Otiluke's is a bug. Nevermind that. It's all a bit of fun.

EDIT: According to my recollection Otiluke's used on hostiles require a saving throw. Is there yet another bug in this buggy spell? I don't think he can actually miss a saving throw... Which again is weird because there is no such thing as a guaranteed saving throw in 2ed AD&D.
