You talking about the mage in FA? He's not too tough, well, not once you know about him and what to expect. I usually just have someone hide in shadows and backstab as soon as he goes hostile. The run into buildings thing could be considered an exploit, but can also be rationalized that the spell once started cannot be stopped, yet without a visual on the target it cannot continue it's propper effect. That's my view anyway.
