Thinking back, I remember that I mostly enjoyed them. They are definitely on the lighter, humourous, side of fantasy. The main character is basically a rock and roll hippie type who smokes some grass and ends up in this fantasy land with walking, talking animals in abundance. But these are not your cutesy childrens book animals. He learns that he can do magic by playing a music instrument (forgot the name). But the only thing he knows how to play is bad rock and roll tunes. This leads to his spells doing weird and unpredictable things.

I started to get bored with them after the 3rd or so book. Although the stories were interesting, the character's, and the jokes, started to get stale. I made it through to the last book about the original character (Jon-Tom or something like that). There was a another book put out called "Son of Spellsinger" which I never got around to reading. It's on my "one of these days" list.
