Oh Gabs, don't give up on the Father of Science Fiction! I'd admit, some of the parts of his books are tough to chew through, but it is well worth it later. Can't have a beautiful house without laying down the foundations and the wiring ect. And don't take this the wrong way, but Tolkin is one of those authors that you get different things out of the older you are. Not saying the book is too hard, but try rereading it when you are a couple of years older. I did. I hated it the first time I read it (16) but reread it later (24) and loved it. No specific reason why, just a different state of mind/knowledge/attitude. So please don't give up on the lord of the rings. Bilbo gives way to Frodo and it picks up.
