It's not one I'm reading at the moment, but I can recommend Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle's The Mote In God's Eye. I recommended it to Ramon in Ziroc's tv thread on the GD forum. Couldn't remember the authors at the time. Good science fiction book as he requested, but one with a whole lot of human interest and some very interesting questions/observations. It's about a high tech society and it's "first contact" with another isolated species. Very well done and I am happy to suggest it to you all for reading.
