Another thing. Did you even know that David Cook (a damn good author), also was the designer/developer of the AD&D second edition rules?? He could not have done it without the ability to tell a good story. The games and the books cannot be separated. Anyone who wants a good game should read the novels. That is where you find the answers to your "why" or "how" questions. If you cut yourself off, and live up to that stupid comment you said earlier, you lose a large reference guide.
