And to throw another comment into this whole thread, a trident is a spear but...

..to hark back to a conversation in EFU last night it was frequently used as a gladiatorial weapon, especially in Roman circuses. It was held one-handed, with a net in the other, by a Rutiarus; the net was used in the shield hand but could be used as a weapon in and of itself (yes, I know I can't have one of them, it would kill the server. Although I did think that maybe having a spell-wand that threw out webs (unlimited per day) may have the same effect, I will ponder). As a result the trident cannot be categorized with the spear we use in EFU (simply because, strictly speaking there are 3 types of spear, short-spear, spear and long-spear, we use the standard type which is two-handed). The best known example of a short spear would probably be the Zulu assegai or stabbing-spear, always used with their shields. Nobody in their right mind in EFU would use a long-spear as, at an average length of 3 to 4 metres, you would get it stuck on the roof every couple of minutes and find it impossible to turn around (although the humour value has potential, especially if you could get it used by a halfling ). By size, shape and finesseability you might even categorize a trident with the rapier (one-handed, piercing) althought normally heavier and therefore would deal more damage.

To summarize, Mozenwrathe, it's a doozy! Can't really be categorized with anything without losing out on either damage amount (rapier) or shifting damage type to slashing to get damage right (longsword).

*phew*
