As with most of the NWN rules, they imported it wrongly from the pnp stuff. XP is supposed to be measured by relative Encounter Class but also by hard level.

Meaning, fighting an easy lvl 1 goblin should give you 30 xp but fighting an easy crypt thing should give you 300. Not to mention there is somehow a cap on how much xp an 'impossible' encounter can give. A lvl 20 impossible is a whole lot different from a lvl 40 impossible believe you me.
