I liked starting my character at Level 1 though. *shrugs* Oh well, I guess progress is progress. I personally was looking forward to creating Franklin Castligione and running him through the entire module starting at Level 1. I guess it is to make sure that many of the players that got frustrated and left at the difficulty of the module do not get turned off so quickly. I am sure there were a lot of people who just went in, saw how badly they were getting slaughtered, and chose never to come back.
The money aspect is a nice touch though, especially when players go to the deeper levels of the Undermountain (or perhaps find things in the Trollbark forest) and sell them off at Durnan's. For a starting player with a small wad of cash, you can get some really nice finds if you are lucky. By the time I was Level 6 (starting at Level 1), I had mastered the art of hoarding whatever I could find and cashing it in - especially when something really powerful turned up at Durnan's.
