I was thinking of adding 'respawn locations' all over each level. And where you die, say on level 1 UM, you would go to heaven or hell (if you're good or bad) and talk to a angel or demon to res, the you pop back to a random location on the level you just died on. You would loose 1000xp, and 2000 gold.
Now, if you decide to run back to yer corpse, or someone res'es ya, you don't get penalized. Something like that.. I don't know how hard this would be to incorporate, but there are LOADS of scripts for respawning on death out on IGN. Maybe I'll check them out.
