You don't even have to have levels as a rogue - you can place up to 5d6 of sneak attack in any wearable item. Improving initiative really helps here.

btw, the only place you find accurate info. on death attack is when you class select Assasin and then go into the character sheet, click on the feats tab, click on death attack - then reading the caption.
