Ok, Beau, walk your char onto the square you wish to drop the runestone on and then go to your inventory and tell him to drop the item, it should work! Then move to the next square and do same til you've dropped all the stones in the pattern and you walk onto the last square, thus finishing the pattern. PS, look around the room, there's a hint on nearly every side of the room , as to the pattern.
