I've just found this on the BioWare forums, posted by Darcy Pajak, Assistant Producer at BioWare:

I expect them to be raised a little bit as we are adding more effects and battles in the game. Epic means power, power means magic. In both the type and number of spells that are cast, and the magic items we give characters.

That being said, the requirements will not be a huge jump as the basic game engine is being upgraded only a little. If you could play SoU, you can play Hordes of the Underdark. Although you may have to drop the video options, or wait a few seconds as the frame rate drops a bit.
