To me, there are two key elements to a good PW.
The first is a DM staff that gives off the feeling it is active, it is interested in and trusts the players.
The second is a community of players which is mainly interested in the same aspects of the game as I am, and lively enough to keep things fresh through the appearance of new members.
The rest of it, the areas, scripts, npcs and monsters, lighting, sound, storyline, history, and so on, is not what is really important. Also, I'll gladly take lag for granted if it means I get to play with the people I want to play with.
Fortunately for me, I've already found what I was looking for. And the lag's rarely noticeable, and the rest of the setting is more than adequate as well.
Of course, doing the scripting myself helps ensure that
EDIT: Before I forget; I wish you good luck on running and continuing to run a server where every players' needs are catered to. Although from my experience it's rarely a good idea to spoil the playerbase, I sincerely hope you manage to pull it off successfully.
