This is strictly for those who have finished the game because I don't want to spoil the game for anyone. So you have been warned!
Okay, I would like to hear your choice of preferred henchman for the final chapter - one I am about to enter - and why you made the choice you did. I would just like to hear your reasoning and if it worked out the way you hoped. Just no spoilers please. For your information I am currently a 16th level NG Cleric with 8th level spells, an AC of 40, and I have a +3 Morningstar. The boy can do some serious damage of his own. But as to henchman the following is what I am thinking:
First Choice: Grimgnaw. Grim is right! This guy is down right creepy and I have to admit that his scripting at one point actually got to me when he mentioned that one of the things he had to fulfill was the killing of an old man, a poor woman, and a baby. A baby! I wonder who comes up with these things...
Nevertheless, this guy is a one-man wrecking crew. He puts out so much damage in such a short time that sometimes I don't even get off a spell before the carcases are lying about. I chose to take him into Luskan and man was I ever glad. Only twice - twice - did he die and the second time was my fault for failing to get healing to him on time. In the really tough battles he draws the attention to himself and I get to cast spell after spell. I truly enjoy this aspect.
Now my other thoughts:
Daelon Red Tiger - love his character, but his damage dealt is not on the same level as Grimgnaw, and whereas I had to rarely portal back to get a newly raised Grimgnaw, it always seemed I was going back for Daelon. Yet, like Grimgnaw, he draws attention to himself, but not as long as he dies a whole lot quicker.
Linu La'nearal - In the earlier going I wasn't too impressed, but by the third chapter I took her into some caves and she really became a whole lot more powerful. Her spells packed a punch, she has decent AC, and she can both melee'as well as range. When we fought the drow it was so much fun as she and I duked it out with their spell casters. Yeah, I know, we're both clerics, but I am not thinking this is such a bad thing. I am strongly leaning towards her. She has become a surprisingly cool character.
Tomi Undergallows - love his sneak attack, trap detection and disarming, lock picking, and fearless fighting. He was really useful the first two chapters, but by chapter 3 I found him dying too often and his damage dealt was less than what I hoped. I'm split on this one, but I do like his character a lot.
Boddyknock Glinkle - I stayed away from him because I read that his spells weren't all that great. Then as I was about to finish the 3rd chapter by going to the Spine of the World, and on a whim I decided to take him. Man, talk about spells that wiped out packs of enemies, this guy was dealing the damage left and right. But like Tomi, he would be surrounded and die too soon. Plus I had to rest alot to get his spells back. He'd cast a ton of them in a single fight. Still, he was a big reason I got through the Fire Giant Lair, et. al.
Sharwyn - I know many like her, but I was mostly underwhelmed. Her lockpicking was nice, but her spells IMO weren't all that useful. Perhaps she didn't play out that well in my experience. She is actually last on my list. Anyone?
Thanks for reading this rambling. It will be fun to hear what you think.
