Yep, when you equip a kama you keep the number of attacks, but the attack bonus should be dependent on the weapon. A kama +2 should give you +2 to AB and damage compared to using your bare fists without any gloves.
There are two things you should know about kama vs unarmed though:
1. You can't use Stunning Fists or Quivering Palms with kamas equipped.
2. A kama is only a 1d6 weapon meaning it will do 1-6 points of damage plus any modifier ( strenght, enchantment bonus etc. ) By comparison a Monk will do 1d8 (1-8) points of damage, if he's medium size, as early as lv. 4 or lv. 6 if he's small size, and the maximum he will do is 1d20 at lv. 16 and upwards. In other words, purely damage-wise a lv. 4 Monk fighting unarmed will do more damage than any Monk using kamas ( I haven't counted the enchantment bonuses here.)
