Tried Great Axes for awhile with my Half-Orc Barb and then gave him Harbinger Kin Greatsword. He consistently did more damage with that 2H sword than with any great axe, so he converted to 2H swords.
Paladin was already using 2H swords because it seemed right for a Paladin. Tried a few Longsword, Bastard, and Katana swords with shield, but he took more damage because it took him longer to kill stuff.
Elf Rogue/Ranger dual wields (Main) longsword/flail/hammer and (Off Hand) short sword/dagger/light hammer and swaps the status/elemental damage types around as needed. This flurry of swapping activity usually occurs if she has failed to take them down by using them as a pincushion with her bow and/or traps.
Wizard and Sorc do not bother. They use shoring and I-beam supports to keep the buildings’ structural integrity intact while they loot the barely visible remains of the victims of their apocalyptic magic attack. Ok, so they carry staffs, but they just use them to lean on when they do their “I am bored” pantomimes while in conversation with verbose potential targets.
