Cool, I was just messin about with my inventory the today and I accidentaly put a dagger in the shield slot, but there was a staff in the other hand. So, I tryed it out with other weapons and nearly all, if not all 1-handed weapons can be equipt with a staff in the right hand slot. You probably already know this, but I think its cool, now my sorcerer can be a bit stronger in melee fights now.....
