I don't think Power Word Kill is that good because it only affects 1 target that has under 100 hit points, but if you use it as an area effect it can kill a lot of creatures that have under 20 hit points. Personally I like area effect spells, because most encounters have more than one creature attacking you, and usually by the time I finish casting a high-level spell on that creature, Daelan, my Summoned Elemental, and Gwenhwyvar would have killed it already.
