Lawfulness does not imply one abhors stealing that is absurd...
Lawfullness implies one follows a structured code, such as the head of a thieves guild, a devil, the question is not obeying the law but what set of laws are obeyed.
Besides have you ever heard the term "Honor amoung thieves."?
Most assasins are lawfull evil.
Most rogues are lawfull to neutral evil.
( in this sense evil implies greed a ruthless pursuit of wealth )
Most wizards are lawfull( this strict and rigorous studing finds this temperment most benificial ).
