Yeah it seems you have to keep away from corners lest you get suck on them. Of course, you can just move to the side and get around them, but if being attacked you are sometimes stuck with the fight ready or not.
As for the door thing, sometimes a monster can hit you, but you cannot hit them because they are out of reach. And yes, I remember once the door opening and I accidentally closed it but the frikken monster was still able to hit me (through the closed door?). So I now try to not stand "directly" in the door way, but one step back so I don't have that problem again.
Had one fight the other day where the monsters actually opened a door and came and attacked me (didn't know they could open doors, not sure if that's a bug or not).
