yup yup they all died
I ran into the water to the toad village and then fought one of them, healed inside the building (they don't seem to be able to climb ladders) went back down and killed another, went back up and healed well you get the idea. the 4th one never left to totem so I had to go all the way back and kill him off but I did it.
Zap seemed pretty decent against them.
