Glad you made it. Personally, when I finish a dungeon, I always throw the keys used there on the floor right at the entrance. That way they do not fill up in my inventory, and I am sure I can always find them again.
Never leave keys on a mule in the inn. The inn bug is the only thing in the game that can make a quest item disappear completely.
