Call of home only works in wilderness areas. It does not work in any dungeon, so that just won't quite make it.
In all games, once you have the Kerah/Cet confrontation, you're in the pyramid to the end. With the unpatched game, apparently some folks get locked in earlier. I'm not completely familiar with the details, as I play patched.
