That's weird. It has never happened to me. I think the_young_one will be right: it's a gremlin in the game. Luckily, a harmless one.
a) The Magic Spear cannot save your skin as we all know [img]graemlins/hehe.gif[/img]
b) Losing the Shinwiki's quest has no consequences later in the game.
c) As far as the second Warrior's Guild quest is considered, the quest is completed by jumping down into the village - you need not speak with Shinwiki or with anybody else at all (except Ekbu, of course), you can climb the the ladder out of the village and go for the quest reward immediately. Therefore, if you were on the quest then the quest is completed.
d) Shinwiki's reward cannot improve you remarkably.
Therefore, you can ignore the gremlin and continue the game without losing anything.

If we are speaking about gremlins in W&W, there are more nasty gremlins in the game:
1. The elevator to Flokis Ra in the Valeia Crypt stops working behind floors. This happened to me several times. This can happen when using the elevator both to Flokis Ra and to the room above Flokis Ra. The only way out is restarting the game in most cases. Therefore, always save game before using the elevator.
2. The Monkey with an Object is not spawn in the Serpent Temple. This happened to me once. I daresay I've played the game so many times that I know where to search for the monkey. Because I had no saves before entering the Serpent Temple, the game was lost. Since then, I am always making a special save before entering Serpent Temple for the first time.
3. The elevator in the kitchen of the Serpent Temple refuses to work. More exactly, the elevator allows you to enter the area behind the kitchen but when you are returning the elevator does not work. This happened to me once and it was also reported on the forum. Either you can teleport away, i.e., you have portal somewhere in the temple, or you have to reload. Therefore, if you cannot teleport then save the game before entering the area behind the kitchen.
4. Missing Glowstone in Collasium. This never happened to me but it was reported on the forum several times. The game is lost because you cannot reach the third tablet. That's why I am always making a special save before entering Collasium for the first time.
