My party: always a solo character. The best choice seems to be an elf. I also tried:
1. a pixie: terrible problems with casting "blue" spells.
2. a ratling and a lizzord: problems with low resistances. Mantraps and Myrathian Wisps will show you what are the resistances for.
3. a whiskah: not bad but no apparent advantages.
My solo character is usually a samurai, an assassin, a zenmaster or a barbarian.
