You can revert your game to the last time you were in TOWN - if that is before meeting Kol, that would take care of everything nicely.
If not - Kol's key gives you access to a small hidden room inside the Temple. It is not all that important and certainly isn't a game stopper. You do get a bit more history in there (nothing you can't learn elsewhere) and some nice ankhs but other than that, you can skip the hidden room and not be the worse off.
