And one of the biggest tips on the trolley carts, one that I wish I had known earlier: create a portal right next to the two trolley cart lines. If you get stuck (and you can get stuck between gates, where you can't get out!), you can always teleport there.

As for the carts themselves, I click on 'em (to get on the cart, just like getting on the raft), then pull the handle and sit. The cart will move you where it wants you to go, and any moves you make can actually cause problems.
