I second Ryanmur's comment. Sounds like the traits of a Vampire. Note that you can "heal" him with the Toughen spell -- check out the excellent tips from... now who was that.. decaf_dar, aka Namo, on the Best Tips thread (page 6).

Only cure for vampirism that I know of is the famous reload spell (as in reload a saved game).

You probably got it from Lysandra (in Shurugeon) or Adrianna in Skull Castle. Perhaps from another vampiress hanging around somewhere, but those two offer you the opportunity (in such sweet, subtle, and soothing tones...)
