Where (around your body) are you carrying it?

Crates and the like can get knocked out of your hands if you bump against walls and other objects. And in some places, I've found it easier to grab the crate and "pull" by walking backwards.

There are also some places where you just can't move crates and barrels. There's a spot in Shurugeon castle where you can't get them through doorways.

You can also try walking into the crate and pushing it with your knees. That can help you move it forward as well.
