Hi connor!!
I've always thought that the bit with the fire was a bit difficult for so early in the game.
My favorite way to get through this part is to grab a chest or crate and have my lead character carry it and run as fast as possible through the whole fire area. The chest/crate reaches the gate before your characters do and keeps it open until they can pass through.
