As for the dead boogre, you have a couple of options.
One, you probably already found the Amulet of Life. You can invoke that for a resurrect spell if you want to do it in the dungeon. Then have him touch the idol once he's resurrected.
If you don't have the amulet or some other means to resurrect him, then bring him back to town, resurrect, and head back to the cave. He can touch the idol then with the same results.
I recall some people keeping their Boogre warriors for the extra 100 hit points...
On a side note, your wizard's guild members may be heading back there again later, anyway.
