At the momenty it's a tie between Diablo (the original, for the reasonable Sean Conerry impersonation and music), Planescape Torment (in spite of the setting, the rip off of the Speed music, the awful setting, greatest role playing game as far as player customisation goes), BG (first one, second one wasn't as much fun due to mirroring sprites (a Torment problem) evil NPC's just casting all defensive spells and then cloning themselves to make for very boring encounters, having to be high levels etc), Severance (virtually unplayable but rewarding, I once killed a goblin with a bottle and murdered an orc by throwing axes, clubs, a goblins leg and the same goblins head at him, dwarfs can just waltz past most of the traps (designed by a dwarf for humans and large monsters) it's just great fun, Wizard's and Warriors, Might and Magic 6&7 (8 was a rush job and obviously unfinished + the mix and match monsters only party system just wasn't for me, I prefer to stick with characters and watch them develope). So, that's about it for now( not forgetting Age of Wonders and a few other little gems) but like I said, my preferences change every day And nobody has yet managed to persuade me into believing that any of the Final Fantasy games are role playing games (even people who play them tell me that they're not).
