I don't know why the ring is still causing to crash, even after patching. Try repatching it and see if that does any good.
The answer to the first riddle is either "Death", "Ice", or "Shadow"...whichever fits. (He asks different versions in different games).
The two others are Kerah (2nd) and Anephas (3rd).
