This is a fiarly tough problem for so early in the game. The levers you find aren't going to make the "gauntlet" easy which might have been nice.
Go grab yourself a crate or a chest from before the fires and have your leading character carry it. Line your party up facing the gate on the far side of the fires and run for it - (shift + forward) - what should happen is that the crate/chest will reach the gate preventing it from closing and thus allowing your party time to get through.
