1) Yes to both questions. The computer IS re-rolling your HP each time, based upon your clan, role, and Fortitude attribute. If your HP roll on the next level up exceeds your current HP, you get as many HP points to bring you up to that roll. If it doesn't exceed your current HP, you'll only get 1 point.

You can reload and try to get higher HP, but this will put you at the high end of the scale and later you'll find it very difficult to get more than 1 HP per level up. Of course, in this game, HP is more important right at the beginning rather than later on.

2) The number of skill points is determined by the following formula:

INT/4, and take the whole number portion.

So a character with an INT of 9 would get 9/4 = 2.25 = 2 skill points. A character with an INT of 18 would get 18/4 = 4.5 = 4 skill points.

Since INT may be raised to 24 (via the use of ankhs and invokable Rings of Mariin for wizards), the max Skill points you can get will be 24/4 = 6 skill points.
