Brdsofprey, it's OK - so many of us have the same problem until get used to listen all those speeches to the very end
And I would add that you have to wait till every guildmaster/shopkeeper finishes his speech in order to get guild quests (including Role Assention quests) or to ger reward for the quests done. Actually every questgiver in the city later or earlie will ask you whether you agree to perform the task, and quest begins after you says "Yes".
