OK, this might be self evident to those of you who played this game for many months but not for newbies. You can actually start the game as ANY elite role (including assassin and Zen master if you have all the required items)provided you have a previous party that made its way to Ishad N'ha. If you don't have a previous party, you can only be a barbarian, a ranger, a paladin and a warlock.
In quests where you have to collect items, send a fake party in to collect them. Once the item is collected, give it to your new character have bring him to the appropriate guild (make sure he has the stats required for the role), join the guild, take on the quest. You should now be an elite character.
In quests where the character has to complete an action to change rank (Ninja, Monk, Barbarian, Paladin), take your intended character out, make sure that he is escorted. The tricky part here, is that you don't want to kill anything (because you want your character to remain level 1) unless it's absolutely necessary. Perform the action and head back to town.
In the case of the barbarian quest, take a second party member with you (clerics are good). But don't have him attack anything (he's there to reduce your damage and split the XP) . You want your future barbarian to kill them all. Simply have you cleric cast heal, bless or repel spells while your other character is wacking his ennemies. For this quest, try to stay in the Valeia region and only hunt LOW exp creatures (bats, rats, birds, butterflies, crouch, worguls are great one). Once you got your 20 unassisted kills, head back to town.
For the monk quest, just climb over the city wall and let your game sit overnight. The next morning, you should head back in town (save first). You should have met the 2 days requirement.
Remember to save often and to never have your character go up to level 2 (it will still be OK, but he won't be really genuine).
When your party is fully assembled, reset the adventures. Go back to the inn in Valiea, assemble your real party and head out. Gareth should now be greeting your new party of elite members.
Have fun.
