That's right, you can retrieve both Jinthols just by jumping. Any character with over 12 in agility should be able to do it without crates. In fact, I never use the crystalls anymore 'cause I jump to retrieve both figurines.
The trick is to go close to the edge, look straight up, jump while walking and you end up on the ledge.
However, if you want more experience in the crypt, I would suggest finding the spirit of Rumphy, wack him, go back to the magic fountain to recharge. Keep doing this until your characters are to your liking.
