Well, the neatest spell combo goes like this:

First cast Vine of Life (Lvl.7 Vine Magic) on a character who has Fiend Magic. Have this character cast Blood Bath (Lvl. 7 Fiend Magic) on an enemy.

Blood Bath hurts the caster with each explosion to the point of killing him/her, but the Vine Of Life spell will not let the character fall below 1 hitpoint - it will prevent death. Blood Bath does massive amounts of damage to most monsters.
