The dragon isn't targeting you, actually...he's nearsighted. He'll fly on if you ignore him.
If you're close to the lake, go get back in the lake. The Mantraps will stay on the shore and you can target them at a distance. Erathsmedor never goes around the lake, either; he stays mainly in the Shire.
