If I remember correctly, (It's been awhile since I was in that dungeon) have the person that has the bauble stick in his/her inventory select it with the 'use/give' icon. Then left click on the crystal (With the use command), and the crystal will be attracted to the stick (Even though it is on the other side of the gate.)
